TAHP supports Senate Bill 916, which renews protections against surprise billing for ground ambulance services. Despite prior reforms at the state and federal levels, ambulance rides remain a major gap—nearly 60% are out-of-network, with one in four resulting in surprise bills. SB 916 reflects consensus among insurers, EMS providers, employers, and consumer advocates, offering a temporary but necessary safeguard while Congress works toward a national solution. The bill continues Texas’ leadership in protecting families from unfair emergency billing practices.
