SB 1525 Oppose One-Pager – Blanket Prior Auth Limits Jeopardize Safety and Open the Door to Dangerous Prescribing

TAHP opposes Senate Bill 1525, which broadly restricts the use of prior authorization—stripping away critical safety checks that protect patients from harmful drug interactions, overprescribing, and inappropriate treatment. While reforms should ease administrative burdens, SB 1525 goes too far by eliminating PAs for most chronic conditions and limiting them to once per year—even for opioids, high-risk specialty drugs, and medications with black-box warnings. These blanket bans undermine clinical safeguards and put patient safety at risk.
